Superstar!

Millions of people will gather together tonight to watch the Super Bowl, whether at the game or watching it on tv. This will be one of the most watched events of the year and people will pay thousands of dollars to watch.

They do this because humans crave shared experience. They need to feel like they're a part of something, not just the narrow little world our social media feeds us all day long. And then what, the game ends and we go back to life as it was. What do we gain by participating and how does it make us any better?

I say all this to ask you this question: what if we were all gathering to experience Christ’s return to earth? How many of us would be excited for His return, and how many could care less, or not even know who Jesus is?

Putting anything in our life before God is a sin. I’m not saying we shouldn’t enjoy our sports; I enjoy my college basketball. But, I am asking, where are your priorities? Do you get irritated when the preacher goes a little longer than anticipated, but you’ll accept the overtime call when you’re team is losing?

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

This verse makes it clear that God is to hold the highest place in our hearts. Our greatest love and deepest affections must be given to Him. If we love something more than God, we are saying that thing is better and more valuable than God.

How about you? Is God the Lord of your life, or are you just filling each day with mindless to-do lists, or killing yourself to reach goals that make you feel empty at the end of the day?

Seek God and rest in the hope of Heaven! Make Jesus your Superstar!
